Highland Caravan Park To Remain Open In December
Blair Castle Estate in the Scottish Highlands has taken the unusual step of keeping its caravan park open into December, way beyond its traditional October closing date, due to an increase in bookings.
The 145,000-acre estate, which includes self-catering accommodation and lodges as well as caravan pitches, has said it is extending its opening season due to a rise in demand for staycation holidays during the pandemic, reports The Herald.
It reports that bookings for self-catering accommodation for September and October were up by 15 per cent on previous years, and motorhome bookings in the caravan park were up by 23 per cent.
It will also be continuing guided tours of the castle until mid-December, and the caravan park will be taking bookings up until the end of the year.
The estate is one of the few destinations that have been able to extend their season, say tourism industry heads, who are awaiting an announcement from the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak on the prospect of support for the tourism sector.
The estate, in Perthshire, said it has seen it’s summer season extended far into the autumn months, reflecting the popularity of touring holidays in the Cairngorms National Park, and Blair Castle is now seeing November and December bookings as families are seeking COVID-secure pre-Christmas holidays.
The estate has said that its accommodation and venues have been implementing COVID-compliant policies, receiving official ‘We’re Good To Go’ accreditation that proves they have followed government guidance and has a process to maintain hygiene and social distancing.
