Camptoo Launches In UK

Camptoo Launches In UK

An innovative platform designed to help more people enjoy motorhome holidays in the UK has launched this month.

Camptoo is the brainchild of Martijn Peeters, who founded the site in the Netherlands four years ago. It’s a way for motorhome owners to rent their vehicles when they’re not in use, and for those who want a weekend away in a campervan to find one that offers greater flexibility than the standard rental options.

There are nearly 1,500 vehicles available to British users, with these motorhomes dotted throughout Europe, FTN News revealed.

Mr Peeters described exploring in a motorhome or campervan as a “truly unique experience”, and one that he wanted more people to be able to enjoy.

“Since you are not tied down by conventional transport schedules you have the opportunity to go with the flow on your travels and encounter sights you would only ever see on the road,” he enthused.

Owners of motorhomes who want to join the Camptoo website can sign up quickly and easily. You simply need to make sure you have the appropriate insurance cover, then put the availability of your campervan, details about its features and any house rules, and the price on the Camptoo website.

Other users can then search based on everything from the size of the motorhome to the pick-up location.

If you’re thinking of sharing your motorhome with others, you may want to invest in some new motorhome equipment in Kent to ensure it’s in top condition before it hits the road.

Given that a growing number of people in the millennial generation are embracing camping as a holiday option, this could be a great way to get a return on your campervan while enabling others who can’t afford their own vehicle to enjoy exploring in this flexible way.

10% Of Brits Discard Travel Insurance

10% Of Brits Discard Travel Insurance

A tenth of Brits who go on holiday do not bother buying travel insurance, leaving them vulnerable and out of pocket if things go wrong on their break.

According to the latest research from Sainsbury’s Bank, nine per cent will not buy travel protection when they holiday this year, whether from their vacation provider or an independent insurance firm.

Karen Hogg of Sainsbury’s Bank Travel Insurance said: “Good quality travel insurance is imperative should you or one of your party become ill. It will also cover loss or theft of personal belongings.”

The financial services provider reported that 23 per cent of those planning to go on a package break bought their travel insurance from their holiday supplier, even though this might not have been the best deal available. Nearly a fifth of these say they do not have the time to search around for a better deal.

Ms Hogg stated that booking a package break for “ease and security” does not mean you can forgo travel protection.

She suggested shopping around for the best policy as all travel insurances are different and will cover varying activities and expenses.

Indeed, only 13 per cent of people have an annual travel insurance policy, which is probably the best one to get for those who enjoy last-minute breaks in the UK, such as caravan holidays.

While you might not necessarily think you need protection for these ‘staycations’, if your valuable caravan equipment went missing on a UK break, you will want to know your travel insurance provider can cover any lost possessions.

More Millennials Embracing Camping

More Millennials Embracing Camping

Camping is rising in popularity, particularly among the millennial generation, in the US and given the reasons behind the boost, it’s reasonable to assume that more people in the UK could also be spending time under canvas this summer.

Forbes reported on the data released as part of the North American Camping Report, which is sponsored by Kampgrounds of America (KOA). It noted that millennials account for 40 per cent of all campers in the nation.

The main reasons behind the upturn in campers is that it’s a great way to de-stress and relax. Speaking to the news provider, KOA president Toby O’Rourke commented: “With reduced barriers and the desire of campers to connect with nature and each other, it is no surprise that camping is fast becoming a fundamental component of an outdoor lifestyle.”

With so many more camping options – from basic pitches to glamping – as well as the rise of motorhomes and campervans, it’s easy to see why a whole new generation are embracing this way of having a break without having to go too far.

Before you head off on an adventure in the great outdoors though, you should make sure that you have all the camping accessories you’ll need in the UK for a trip.

And if you have young children, going on family camping trips could be the ideal way to instill a love of the great outdoors in them that will last a lifetime.

A recent survey by Little Tikes found that camping was one of the top 15 outdoor activities that children enjoy, according to the youngsters the organisation spoke to for the research.

Best Places For A Scottish Motorhome Holiday

With spring making itself felt, and the arrival of summer tantalisingly close, now is the perfect time to start planning a getaway for the warmer months of the year.

If you’ve got your own campervan, you may well be looking for good spots to explore in the UK, and Scotland has some wonderful places that are perfect for those in motorhomes. The Daily Record recently picked out some of the best to give you some inspiration for your holiday planning.

It is worth remembering though that the weather in Scotland can be changeable, so make sure you pick up motorhome awnings in Kent before you set off on your epic road trip north of the border.

Loch Torridon on the country’s west coast is at the top of the list, with the newspaper noting that it’s known for its stunning landscapes, resident population of otters and gorgeous white sandy beaches.

Scourie, which is part of the North Coast 500 route, also featured. The publication noted that there are some particularly spectacular views from some of the local camping and caravan sites, so this is a good one to include on a road trip. Local attractions here include Smoo Cave, Sandwood Bay and Cape Wrath.

John o’ Groats may be famous for being the UK’s most northerly point, but the newspaper believes it’s worth a visit for its unspoilt scenery and beautiful coastal walks. If you want to go even further afield, this is also where the ferries to the Orkney Islands depart from.

Last year, the Scotsman highlighted some of the country’s top beachside location for motorhome breaks, including Yellowcraig beach in East Lothian, Dunnet Head in Caithness, and Stonehaven Bay in Aberdeenshire.

Advice To Help Your Kids Fall In Love With The Outdoors

Advice To Help Your Kids Fall In Love With The Outdoors

With modern technology there are plenty of distractions for children nowadays – and many of them keep them indoors and firmly rooted to a seat. If you want your youngsters to grow up with a love of the great outdoors, there are a few things you can do to encourage them to get out and about more now.

The Mirror recently shared some suggestions, after reporting on a survey by Little Tikes which found that 30 per cent of youngsters have been too involved in a video game to go and play outside, while 24 per cent have asked to stay at home to watch their favourite TV show rather than going out.

Psychologist and spokesperson for the firm Emma Kenny commented: “It’s important for parents to help nurture an interest in the outdoors in their children to grow and flourish.”

One thing you could do is take your family on a camping trip, with camping listed as one of the top 15 things to do outdoors by children in the survey.

Also on the list was exploring woods or forests, going on a picnic and building a den, among other things.

If you’re new to spending time under canvas, make sure you pick up all the UK camping supplies you need before you set off on your adventure.

You don’t have to stick to the UK for your camping trip either, as there are some wonderful spots in Europe, such as Le Clos du Lac in Provence, France, or for somewhere a little off the beaten track, Camp Liza in Bovec, Slovenia.

If you’re thinking of exploring Europe on a camping trip this summer, you should make sure you pick up all your camping supplies in the UK before you set off. But where should you go?

The Guardian has picked out 20 of the best European campsites to give you some inspiration for your summer break this year.

For anyone who’s keen to have mountains on their doorstep for some excellent hiking, cycling and climbing opportunities there are two top options – Quinta dos Moinhos in Braga, Portugal, and Le Clos du Lac in Provence, France.

The former is within easy reach of two national parks, while at the latter you can not only explore the Ecrins National Park, but also go swimming in a nearby lake.

There are also some wonderful lake and riverside campsites dotted around mainland Europe, including Camping Lindenhof in Bern, Switzerland, which is right next to Lake Biel, and Camp Liza in Slovenia’s Bovec. Here you can go kayaking, rafting or canyoning in the nearby Koritnica River, or discover the valleys and hills on one of the many hiking or cycling trails.

If it’s a beach you’re after though, you could do much worse than Camp Vala in Mokalo, Croatia. This campsite not only has gorgeous bays nearby, but also mountains and woodland. Enjoy all the usual seaside activities in this beautiful setting.

For UK camping or motorhome trips, you may want to visit some of the country’s stunning coastal areas. Among the top places to go for quiet stretches of sand are Achmelvich in Scotland and Herm Island in the Channel Islands.

Motorhomes Growing In Popularity

Motorhomes Growing In Popularity

More and more people in the UK are recognising the advantages of having their own motorhome to take short breaks with.

The News Wheel cited figures from the National Caravan Council, which showed that between July 2016 and June 2017 13,162 new motorhomes were registered, a significant increase on the previous 12 months when 11,559 new vehicles of this kind were registered.

What’s more, data from the ONS shows that people who have these kinds of vehicles are taking more frequent, shorter breaks.

According to the news provider, these kinds of vehicles and accommodation are ideal for this purpose because they allow for “less restriction when travelling to your chosen destination”.

Motorhomes also allow you to visit anywhere you like when you’re in the mood, giving you more freedom to explore. This can be especially good for families as it gives them their own space without the hassle of having to book expensive accommodation.

You can also increase the amount of space you have by investing in motorhome awnings in the UK. This can not only protect you from any downpours, but also provide shade from the sun (if we’re lucky enough to get some heat).

If you’re looking for some inspiration for a spontaneous motorhome getaway this Easter, you may want to see what Kent has to offer. Among the top attractions during this kind of holiday are Dover Castle, the East Kent Railway and the new Peter Rabbit trail in Kew Gardens.

There are plenty of other great places to explore on a motorhome holiday, so let your imagination run wild.
